l’ultima tazza—the last cup

short film

There’s a special kind of communication that only exists in relationships. No words. Just eye contact and pure judgment. The kind of look across a dinner table that says: “Stop talking”, “I love you”, “You’re embarrassing me” all at the same time.

I got one of those “behave” looks from Antonia . No words. Just a micro-glance that threatens consequences. That’s when I realized I need to write about this. A full conversation without opening your mouth.

We were in Como at the time. I was pretty burnt out. Not in a tragic way. Just the dull, annoying kind where everything feels like work. We had a Super8 with us. One of the few that shoots 25fps, which in film nerd land is a big deal.

I wrote the script that night and pitched it to Ronja and Lukas while they were half-asleep. Strategic timing to guarantee a yes. The next morning we sat down for maybe an hour, planned the shots, acted it out a bit to see if it made sense. And then we shot every scene exactly once, because film is expensive and mistakes are part of the charm.

It’s a simple little film. And honestly, I needed that. Not everything has to be blown out. Just two people, one cup of coffee, and that language you only learn when you really know someone.

Shot on Super8, Kodak 50D
